2014 #NICSAGMM | Day 1

Welcome to the 2014 NICSA General Membership Meeting! This year’s meeting welcomed an array of different attendees, from service providers to fund firms, to downtown Boston for this two-day educational and networking event.

0257Starting Day 1 was an opening keynote presentation delivered by Mike Diamond, Fidelity and Josh Charlson, Morningstar. Both speakers addressed the audience with the latest news on alternatives and how their organizations are preparing for upcoming changes within the industry.

Morning breakout sessions tackled hot topics including: operational implications of alternatives, regulation within the cyber-security space and how to use big data to leverage customer service. Speakers from almost ten member-firms, along with a panelist from the SEC, engaged listeners and left them walking away with valuable insight they can apply to their own organizations.

Around noon, attendees rejoined each other in the Grand ballroom for lunch and the NICSA/NOVA Award Presentations. All winners were honored with a special plaque for their hard work and dedication within the industry. Find out more details about the NICSA/NOVA Award winners in this official NICSA press release.

Following the award presentation, GMM attendees welcomed afternoon keynote presenter, Wes Trochlil, Effective Database Management. Wes delivered an engaging presentation revolved around the younger generation, Millennials, and how organizations can better accommodate this new, technology-savvy group of young professionals.

The agenda for the afternoon was jam-packed with two sets of 3 different breakout sessions. From compliance to intermediary oversight and UIT’s to FICCA standards, popular topics from around the investment industry were covered by our group of expert panelists and moderators.

To close out a successful day, attendees mingled at the evening reception, sponsored by Boston Financial and DST while snapping photos with the infamous Boston Red Sox mascot, the Green Monster.
